CUMSA Regional Conference 2024 – Innovation and Collaboration in Mail Services

The sun-soaked city of Sarasota, Florida served as the vibrant backdrop for the College and University Mail Services Association (CUMSA) Regional Conference, held from April 6th to April 10th, 2024. Drawing professionals from universities across the southeastern United States, the event provided a platform for over 60 dedicated individuals to converge, exchange ideas, and explore best practices in mail services operations.

This year, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the conference for the first time, showcasing Received Digital, our modern solution for managing inbound mail and packages. Aside from the fun of showing off our own solution, the conference was an incredible opportunity for us to learn from and connect with those at the forefront of the university mail services field in this region.

Event leadership and success

Under the adept leadership of CUMSA President Ronnie Farris and a committed organizing team comprising Jan Wilson, Don McCarty, Haley McDaniel, Chuck Brantley, Ed Smalls, and Kenneth Greene, the conference was hailed as a resounding success. Attendees came from esteemed institutions across the southeastern region, bringing with them a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to excellence in mail services.

The conference agenda was thoughtfully curated to address the evolving needs and challenges faced by mail services professionals in higher education. Sessions spanned a diverse range of topics, including leveraging Social Media to Engage Students, Harnessing the Power of AI in Content & Instruction, and Navigating the Digital Workplace. In addition to staying up-to-date on all things USPS, attendees also had the opportunity to participate in team-building activities, forging meaningful connections and fostering a spirit of collaboration.

Throughout the conference, feedback from attendees was resoundingly positive, with accolades such as “one of the best organized events,” “great information and a great time,” and “I definitely have new ideas I can bring back to my campus,” underscoring the value and impact of the conference.

Recognizing excellence: The President Contribution Award

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the President Contribution Award to Vanessa Pearsall by Ronnie Farris. Vanessa, currently serving as the Duplication Specialist at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro, Georgia, was recognized for her outstanding efforts in engaging both existing and new members ahead of the conference. Ronnie commended Vanessa’s exceptional ability to connect with individuals, emphasizing her instrumental role in the success of the event.

Vanessa Pearsall’s dedication to her institution and customer service has been recognized and endorsed by her colleagues, exemplifying the spirit of excellence that defines the CUMSA community.

Reflection and gratitude

As we reflect on the 2024 CUMSA Regional Conference, we extend our gratitude to all attendees, organizers, and sponsors for their support and enthusiasm. Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and advancing excellence in mail services across college and university campuses.

Stay tuned for updates and announcements regarding future CUMSA events, as we continue to raise the bar for excellence in mail services.
